雅思作文A类：
A类雅思小作文，考察考生对雅思作文的描述和分析数据能力，要求考生们根据电脑给出的图表或表格写一篇大约150字的文章，。
A类雅思大作文，是对雅思作文的词汇、语法等进行考察，要求考生们针对某个问题或观点写一篇大约250字的文章，要求能够恰当地使用语气和语域讨论问题，并且展开论证。
雅思作文G类：
G类雅思小作文，考察的内容是询问信息或解释一种情况，要求考生们写一篇大约150字的信。
G类雅思大作文，是对雅思作文的词汇、语法等进行考察，要求考生们写一篇大约250字的短文，能够恰当的使用语气和语域表达自己的观点，并且反驳其它观点。
雅思写作评分标准中，对雅思作文字数提出了明确的限制，主要从内容是否切题，立场是否鲜明并得到有效阐释，结构是否有逻辑性这三个方面考察雅思作文完成的情况。
一般来说，雅思写作并不是字数越多也越好，但是一般要需达到所要求的单词数量，写作的字数最好比所要求的字数稍微多一点。
建议考生小作文不要超过170个单词，而大作文也不要超过280个单词就可以了，另外还需要注意的是在写作测试的过程当中，质量比数量更加重要！
雅思作文具体字数
雅思作文不同分数段，对于字数的要求会有所不同，但是基本满足要求字数：
目标分数：4—4.5分，作文字数保持在180字—200字左右。
目标分数：5—5.5分，作文字数保持在200字以上。
目标分数：6.0分，作文字数保持在280字以上。
目标分数：6.5分及以上，作文字数可在320字以上。
不同的目标分数段对字数的要求不同，因此建议根据自己的实际情况，调整备考目标，先为自己设置一个目标分数，然后在练习中确保单词数量符合相应标准。在字数达标的基础上，把握三点：即句型、词汇以及语法，效果更佳理想。
